From concept to delivery—everything you need to know to produce your first collection the right way.

So, you’ve got a vision. Maybe even some sketches. Maybe a moodboard, a name, and a whole lot of passion. But when it comes to actually producing your first line of clothing... you're stuck.

You’re not alone.

At The Fashion Mansion Group, we guide fashion startups and emerging designers through the entire production process—from idea to final shipment. Whether you’re launching a direct-to-consumer line or developing for wholesale, this guide breaks it all down step-by-step.

Step 1: Define Your Concept Clearly
Before you even think about factories, you need to be able to answer:
  • Who is this collection for?
  • What problem does it solve or statement does it make?
  • What aesthetic and fit are you aiming for?
  • How many styles/pieces will you start with?
This becomes your creative and strategic brief—and it’ll guide everything that follows.

Step 2: Create a Tech Pack for Each Style
A tech pack is the blueprint for your garment. It tells your factory exactly what to make and how.
Each tech pack should include:
  • Technical flat sketch
  • Materials/fabric details
  • Colorways
  • Size range & grading
  • Construction notes
  • Label & trim specs
  • Reference images
Without a proper tech pack, your sample is based on guesswork—not precision.

Step 3: Source Materials (Fabric, Trims, Labels)
Next, you’ll need to secure the actual components that make up your garment:
  • Fabric
  • Lining
  • Buttons/zippers
  • Labels/hangtags
  • Packaging
Make sure you get swatches and test reports. You'll also want to consider MOQ (minimum order quantity) and lead time for each supplier.

Step 4: Sample Development
Your factory will now create your first prototype sample. Don’t expect perfection—this is about testing shape, fit, and construction.
You may go through multiple rounds:
  • Proto sample
  • Fit sample
  • Pre-production sample (PPS)
Be specific in your feedback. Document all changes. This phase is where quality and consistency are built.

Step 5: Production Planning
Once your samples are approved, it's time to prepare for bulk production.
This step includes:
  • Finalizing your PO (purchase order)
  • Securing a production slot with your manufacturer
  • Ordering bulk fabric & trims
  • Approving color dips and lab dips
  • Setting up quality checkpoints
This is also the time to decide: Will you ship directly to customers or use a 3PL (third-party logistics) provider?

Step 6: Production Run & Quality Control
During bulk production, it’s essential to monitor quality. Poor stitching, uneven dye, or incorrect specs can cost thousands.
We recommend:
  • Mid-production checks
  • Final inspection reports
  • AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) protocols
Your reputation begins here.

Step 7: Delivery & Fulfillment
Once production wraps, your pieces need to move—whether to your fulfillment center, retail partners, or directly to your door.
Plan ahead for:
  • Shipping logistics (air, sea, courier)
  • Import duties/customs clearance
  • Final product inspection
  • Warehouse receiving or e-commerce setup
Clothing production isn’t just about making garments—it’s about managing a system that ensures quality, fit, and brand integrity at every touchpoint.

It can be overwhelming. But with the right guidance, it doesn’t have to be.

At The Fashion Mansion Group, we specialize in helping brands like yours navigate production from start to finish—with clarity, control, and confidence.
